Taraweeh prayer

T
oday, I will tell you that if Taraweeh prayers are not performed, will there be fasting?

What did the Prophet (peace be upon him) say? Find out in detail!

There is no hadith that if Taraweeh is not recited then fasting will not take place.

As important as fasting is in the month of Ramadan, so is Taraweeh prayers. There is no difference in terms of virtue. But two different acts of worship.

It is not correct to say that if one does not perform the Taraweeh prayers, then he will not fast or will be deprived of his virtues. There is no doubt that he will fast.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) further said that a person who fasts with faith and introspection in the hope of full levity, performs Taraweeh prayers and worships Allaah from waking up on the night of Qadr, all the sins before his life will be forgiven. (Bukhari, Muslim)

However, if one skips the Taraweeh prayers, it will not have any effect on the fast. Because fasting and Taraweeh are two different separate acts of worship. Therefore, if a person who is fasting does not offer Taraweeh prayers, it will not have any effect on fasting.

Narrated Abu Hurairah (RA): Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Whoever prayed at night the whole month of Ramadan out of sincere Faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven." (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to offer Taraweeh prayers in congregation in the month of Ramadan. And sometimes it has happened that after praying a few rak'ats with the congregation, sometimes he has prayed alone.

In this regard, it has been narrated from Zayd bin Tabid that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) prayed in the mosque on the first night. When this was announced, more people gathered in the mosque on the second day and stood behind the Prophet (peace be upon him) and offered prayers. On the third day more people gathered and the Prophet (peace be upon him) prayed in congregation. On the fourth day when there was not enough space in the mosque and everyone was waiting for the Prophet (peace be upon him) to come and offer prayers. But the Prophet (peace be upon him) did not come to the mosque that day. So in the morning he came and said, "I have noticed that you are waiting." But I refrained from coming to you only for fear that I might fear that Taraweeh would be imposed on you. (Bukhari)
I did not come so that you do not think Taraweeh prayers are obligatory.

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did not teach Taraweeh in congregation regularly, but most of the time he prayed Taraweeh prayers alone. He himself has told the Ummah why he did not follow the rules of the Jamaat. Taraweeh prayers should not be considered as unimportant. Although it is not obligatory, it is no less important as a Mu'akkadah in the Sunnah.

Narrated from Abu Hurairah. He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say: Do not make your house a graveyard." (Mishkatul Masabih)

That is, do not make the house like a grave where no worship can be done. Even the prayer cannot be performed. Rather, pray at home and perform a part of worship in it. It is also said that this part of the hadith encourages one to pray and worship at home. One should not leave the Imam and leave the mosque without reciting twenty rak'ats. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: Whoever performs Qiyaam al-Layl or Taraweeh with the Imam at the end, he will be rewarded for fasting the whole night. (Tirmidhi)

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to perform most of these prayers at the end of the night and rest at the beginning. He has performed different rak'at Taraweeh prayers at different times. He has sometimes performed 8 rak'ats, sometimes 16 rak'ats, and sometimes 20 rak'ats of Taraweeh prayers. But for special reasons he did not read 20 rak'ats regularly. Because if Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) does any work regularly, it becomes obligatory for the Ummah. Due to this compassionate look, he did not allow Taraweeh Jamaat to be full of 20 rak'ats every time during his tenure.

The special virtuous period of Ramadan should not be neglected in any way in the Taraweeh prayers. Let us try to gain the pleasure of Allah by performing Taraweeh prayers with due importance. May Allah bless us. (Ameen)
